Introduction
This article provides an overview of the network setup for the Elevate Dispatch System.
The Elevate Dispatch System relies on a dedicated local network to allow the dispatchers, tablets and associated control equipment to communicate reliably. This article explains how the main network components fit together and what should be checked during installation.
Detailed setup, configuration and troubleshooting information for individual components is covered in their own dedicated support articles.
The main components covered by this network are:
- Teltonika Switch
- Teltonika Modem
- PoE Tablets
- Dispatchers
- Changeover Device
1. Physical Installation
The Elevate Dispatch System is typically supplied with a dedicated network arrangement. This network should be treated as separate from the building’s general IT network unless otherwise specified.
The network allows communication between the dispatchers, PoE tablets, modem, switch and changeover equipment. Each item should be connected in accordance with the site-specific topology drawing supplied with the project.
This article should be used alongside the dedicated articles for each system component.
2. Component Articles
The main setup and configuration information for each component is contained within its own article.
Please refer to the relevant article before installing, configuring or troubleshooting any individual item.
| Component | Refer to dedicated article for |
| Teltonika TSW202 Switch | Switch setup, port allocation, power requirements and troubleshooting |
| Teltonika TRB246 Modem | SIM setup, mobile data, remote access, antenna positioning and troubleshooting |
| PoE Tablets | Tablet installation, power, app setup, network connection and troubleshooting |
| Dispatchers | Dispatcher installation, IP settings, system configuration and diagnostics |
| Changeover Device | Wiring, operation, changeover function and project-specific configuration |
This network setup article is intended to explain how these components connect together as a complete system.
3. Network Connection Layout
The Teltonika switches act as the central network connection point for the Elevate Dispatch System.
Typical connections may include:
- Teltonika modem connected to the switch
- Dispatchers connected to the switch
- PoE tablets connected to the switch
- Changeover device connected as shown on the project drawings
The exact arrangement may vary depending on the project. Always follow the supplied topology drawing and wiring documentation.
4. Dedicated Network Requirement
The Elevate Dispatch System network should be treated as a dedicated control network.
Do not connect unrelated site equipment, office IT equipment or third-party devices to the Elevate Dispatch network unless this has been confirmed by C.E. Electronics.
Incorrectly connected devices may cause:
- Network conflicts
- IP address conflicts
- Communication issues
- Intermittent tablet connection
- Dispatcher communication failure
- System instability
5. Cabling Requirements
All network cabling should be installed using good-quality Ethernet cable suitable for the installation environment.
We recommend:
- Using shielded Ethernet cable where possible
- Using LSZH cable where required by the site specification
- Avoiding unnecessary joins, couplers or patch extensions
- Clearly labelling both ends of each network cable
- Keeping cable runs as short as reasonably possible
- Following the supplied topology drawing
For PoE tablet connections, the quality and length of the Ethernet cable is particularly important because the cable carries both power and data.
6. IP Addressing and Configuration
The Elevate Dispatch System will normally be supplied with preconfigured network settings.
IP addresses, ports and device names may vary depending on the project. Do not alter IP addressing, modem settings, switch settings or dispatcher configuration unless instructed to do so by C.E. Electronics.
Where IP address information is required, refer to the project-specific documentation or the relevant component article.
7. Final Installation Checks
Before powering up or commissioning the Elevate Dispatch System, check the following:
- The Teltonika switches are powered correctly.
- The Teltonika modem is connected as shown on the topology drawing.
- The dispatchers are connected to the dedicated network.
- The PoE tablets are connected to the correct network ports.
- The changeover device is connected as shown on the project drawings.
- All Ethernet cables are fully inserted and labelled.
- No unauthorised devices are connected to the dedicated network.
- The tablets power on correctly.
- The tablets can communicate with the dispatchers.
- The system operates correctly in normal and changeover conditions, where applicable.
8. Basic Network Troubleshooting
For detailed troubleshooting, refer to the dedicated article for the affected component.
Tablet does not power on
Check that:
- The network cable is connected.
- The switch is powered.
- The cable is not damaged.
For further checks, refer to the PoE tablet article.
Tablet powers on but does not connect
Check that:
- The tablet is connected to the Elevate Dispatch network.
- The dispatcher is powered on.
- The network cable is connected to the correct port.
- The switch is powered and operating.
- The cable is not damaged.
For further checks, refer to the PoE tablet and dispatcher articles.
Remote access is unavailable
Check that:
- The Teltonika modem is powered.
- The modem is connected to the switch.
- The antennas are connected, where applicable.
- The SIM card, if used, is active.
- There is suitable mobile signal.
For further checks, refer to the Teltonika modem article.
Dispatcher communication issue
Check that:
- The dispatcher is powered.
- The dispatcher is connected to the correct network.
- The switch is powered.
- The controller is connected to the dispatcher correctly.
For further checks, refer to the dispatcher article.
Changeover issue
Check that:
- The changeover device is connected as shown on the project drawing.
- The changeover is powered.
- The controller is connected correctly.
- The dispatchers and network switch are operating correctly.
For further checks, refer to the changeover device article.
9. Notes
This article provides a general overview of the Elevate Dispatch System network setup. It should be used together with the project-specific topology drawing, wiring documentation and the individual component articles.
Any changes to the network layout, IP addressing, switch configuration, modem configuration or changeover wiring should only be made following confirmation from C.E. Electronics.
