What is destination control and how do you use it?

Modified on Thu, 20 Mar at 9:51 AM

Destination control is an advanced elevator dispatching system designed to optimise efficiency and passenger flow within a building. Unlike conventional systems where users press a button to call an elevator and select their floor inside the car, destination control requires passengers to input their desired floor at a kiosk or keypad before boarding.

Touch the floor you want to go to on the kiosk screen:

The dispatcher will tell you which elevator to use and point you towards it:

The kiosk screens' colours, graphics, layout, and language used were chosen when the system was ordered.

The elevators have flags above each of their landing doors.  These vary according to the installation but typically look like this:

The flag will be lit to indicate that the elevator is due and will be stopping, and it will flash when it is about to arrive.

In this example of the kiosk floor selection screen, the main entrance floor (Ground) has an extra big button, so it is quick and easy to select:

This is just for convenience.  If you choose the smaller button, it will do the same thing:

There is an additional button to access a keypad:

This presents a numeric keypad, which can also be used to call the elevator.

The # key allows for special functions (enter # and then the numeric PIN).  These special functions are for elevator maintenance engineers and building management.  If you need access to any special functions (for example, to capture an elevator to clean it), please ask your building management for the PIN code.
